Social Welfare Deptt Kashmir refutes news regarding
malfunctioning of Marriage Assistance Scheme

February 21: The Department
of Social Welfare, Kashmir refutes news report published in a local Urdu daily
Kashmir Uzma regarding dysfunction of Marriage Assistance Scheme
According to the rebuttal issued by
Director Social Welfare Department, Kashmir Mohammad Akbar Wani the Marriage
Assistance is a financial assistance scheme for the girls of marriageable age
who belong to either AAY or PHH Ration Card holder families and concerned
District Social Welfare Officer submit the cases of eligible beneficiaries
after due verification on fortnightly basis to concerned Deputy Commissioners.
Applicants have to apply on
Jansugam portal at least one month in advance i.e before the date of marriage.
After due scrutinization and verification regarding her eligibility at DSWO
level the case is forwarded to Deputy Commissioner, who thereafter refer the
case to the Director Finance (Administrative Department) for payment.
However, the figures/details
regarding the districts mentioned in the news are not correct and valid as per
Jansugam portal. The figures/ details are concocted/ skewed to defame the
essence of the scheme in the larger interest.
The said scheme has benefited
thousands of poor girls for their marriages. The scheme is universal for the
girls belonging to poor families without any target.
The Government is committed to
provide financial assistance to all those eligible girls recommended by Deputy
Commissioners.
The department has requested to the
general public not to pay heed to the details of the news published in Kashmir
Uzma on 20th of February 2025.
