Home voting begins in Budgam assembly segments of Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency

Elderly, PwD electors hail Election Commission of India for providing them ballot facility at their doorsteps

BUDGAM, MAY 07:  With 2- Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency set to go for polls on May- 13 during the fourth phase of Lok Sabha Elections-2024, the Home Voting process began today in 3 assembly segments of Budgam district.

These assembly segments include 29- Khansahab, 30- Charar-i-Sharief and 31-Chadoora.

It is worth mentioning that the ECI has for the first time initiated the facility of home voting, where poll parties along with voting facilities were dispatched to the houses of eligible voters to facilitate them for home voting facility to collect their votes at their respective places.

The facility of home voting has been availed by elderly citizens above 85 years of age and specially-abled persons (PwDs), with 40 percent disability criteria.

The exercise involved a dedicated team of polling officials, including presiding Officer, security personnel and other poll parties who collected votes of eligible voters under the prescribed guidelines of Election Commission of India.

The home voters hailed the Election Commission for reaching them to their doorsteps and providing them such facilities at their home.

Rahti Bano- 99 years of age of Khansahib Budgam is one of the senior citizens who availed the home voting facility and casted her vote at her home.

She expressed her joy that she could cast her vote from her home, which otherwise she said would have been difficult for her to reach polling station due to her health conditions and exercise her right to franchise.

Similarly, senior citizen Habibbulah Dar thanked the Election Commission of India for the home voting facility.

Dar, who casted his vote today for the Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency, appealed to all voters in Kashmir to cast their vote on the designated poll day.
