Major crackdown launched against illegal mining in Samba
Action initiated against 4 stone crushers, others
SAMBA, MARCH 15: The Department of
Geology & Mining Samba launched a comprehensive enforcement operation
targeting illegal mining activities across the region, resulting in substantial
penalties and seizures.
Led by the District Mineral
Officer, Shiv Kumar Sharma, the vigorous anti-mining campaign identified and
took action against 24 illegal operations, including stone crushers, mineral
dealers, and unauthorized mining vehicles. The operation has already
recovered ₹7.50 lakh in penalties from
offenders.
"This enforcement action
will continue to protect our natural resources and ensure that all mining
activities comply with established regulations," said District Mineral
Officer, Samba.
The enforcement drive specifically
targeted 3 stone crushers operating illegally in Bein Nallah, 4 unauthorized
Mineral Dealer Licenses near Basanter, 2 illegal overburden dumps in Supwal and
Kangwala areas, 1 unauthorized gypsum dump in Rai Morh, 14 vehicles engaged in
illegal mineral transportation across various district locations
The Department will continue its
vigilance and enforcement activities to prevent illegal extraction of minerals
throughout the district. Citizens are encouraged to report suspected illegal
mining operations to help protect the region's natural resources.
